The plan for January 31st Loaves and Fishes meal-
Fifteen (15) Baked Ziti (9x13 pan)
Seven (7) Number 10 cans of green beans
15 bags of tangerines
a big can of coffee
a big container of powdered lemonade
dessert will be cookies from Little Bethlehem

Volunteer Needs:
We need two people to work together as couriers to bring food from the Fairview Kitchen to the Loaves and Fishes Kitchen - ensuring the food arrives at 3 PM to be heated in the Loaves and Fishes Kitchen.
To help set up and heat the food arrive at 3 PM.
To help with serving food arrive at 3:45 PM.  
To help with clean up arrive by 5 PM.

Mark will get the key and open the kitchen at 3 PM.

Costumed Characters with Improvised Lines are:
Lead Shepherd
Rebekah
Inn Keeper

The Lead Shepherd is the host of each group, going to Bethlehem with the visitors, talking to them about what happened before they met, debriefing with them after the manger scene. They interact with Rebekahs and the Inn Keeper as their group of visitors watch.

Rebekahs sit at the town gate and greet the visitors and the Lead Shepherd.  They answer questions from the Lead Shepherd like, "have you seen a new star?" "Has a new king been born here?" "Have you seen any angels?"  They do their best to answer, but are a bit dubious about the shepherd's story.

The Inn Keeper is in the courtyard and interacts with the Lead Shepherds.  The Inn Keeper does not treat the Shepherds with respect and finds their questions annoying and silly.  The Inn Keeper finally lets the Shepherd and group of visitors go see what's taken place in the barn.

Here is the scripted scene:

Melchior - Kind sir, we've been following a star from the East. It has led us to this place. My name is Melchior and this is Caspar and Balthasar.

Caspar- We are magi from Persia and have come to see the new king. Is this he?

Joseph- I am Joseph and this is Mary, the mother of the child you seek.

Melchior- We have followed this star for weeks and hoped it would lead us to this place. O Little One, please accept my gift of gold... a gift worthy of your high place.

Caspar- Yes, my Lord, also accept this gift of frankincense... a gift fit for a high priest.

Balthasar- Also, please accept my gift of myrrh... suitable for one who is to die for us all, as our supreme Savior.

Mary- Oh kind sirs, we than you for these gifts and are grateful you made your long journey. I will treasure this moment forever.

Joseph- I fear my wife and child are weary from our experience today. We thank you for your expressions of love, but ask for a few moments of quiet so the child and my wife may rest.

Lead Shepherd- *something like* Let us continue on our journey and allow these folks some moments alone.

Follow Shepherd

Follow Shepherds are helpful for crowd control. They go with the group the Lead Shepherd leads.  They are the last person in the group, so that the Lead Shepherd in the next group has an idea how far along the other groups are.  This ensures multiple groups don't end up at the Rebekah Station or Inn Keeper Station at the same time. They have no lines.

Children and Townspeople hang out outside the Inn. They mostly stay in the background talking quietly amongst themselves or playing quietly. Sometimes they sneak a few cookies. They have no lines.  With each group the Inn Keeper will send one child to show the group the stables.

The angel stands behind Mary and Joseph, hidden from few behind a white screen. Toward the end of the scripted dialogue, Joseph flips a hidden switch and the angel is reveal.  The angel says no lines, but holds up their arms when the light is on.

You can greet people as they come inside and direct them to the narthex, you can use the hand tally counter to get the total number of visitors, you can help in narthex clean up, you can host the coloring/activity table- interacting with kids and keeping the table tidy.

Outside Hospitality is an important job!
The person/people serving here are the first folks that visitors see.
A person serving here will need to be friendly, welcoming, comfortable making chit-chat with our neighbors, and standing outside.
In this position you'll stand outside on the sidewalk and organize visitors into groups.  
You'll wear regular (warm!) clothes and your Fairview name tag.
