Easter or Resurrection Sunday is the most joyous and celebrative Sunday of the Christian year. We celebrate the good news that in Christ’s death and resurrection we, and all creation, are continually being made new by God’s love and saving grace.  This good news is so good we celebrate for a whole season - 50 days after Resurrection Sunday - culminating on Pentecost Sunday.

This year Easter is Sunday, April 20 and Pentecost is Sunday, June 8.

The journey to Easter begins on Ash Wednesday. As we move through the 40 days of Lent, we may choose to praise and worship the Lord; to read the Bible more, and to pray more often, all in preparation for celebrating the most sacred of days.

Holy Week is marked by two evening worship services when we contemplate Jesus' final days on Earth, an intense time of joy, betrayal and mourning.
Maundy Thursday or Holy Thursday worship focuses on Jesus' Last Supper with his Disciples.
Good Friday worship focuses on Jesus' passion and death.

Holy Week and Easter Worship

This season our worship series is called Everything In Between: Finding God in the Midst of Extremes.
We'll examine the seeming opposites of power and humility, acceptance and resistance, and grief and hope in worship during Holy Week and Easter.
Join us as we worship God together!

Holy Thursday

Worship online and in the sanctuary
Thursday, April 17 at 6:00 PM

Focal scripture Luke 22:1-27
In his final hours, Jesus redefines power through acts of humility, including sharing a final meal with
his closest friends and those who will soon betray him. After breaking bread, the disciples argue about who is the greatest, but Jesus tells them that the greatest must be the least and the leader must be the servant, turning their hierarchy on its head. According to Jesus, humility is powerful, and real power is shown through humility.

Good Friday

Worship online and in the sanctuary
Friday, April 18 at 6:00 PM

Focal scripture Luke 23:32-49
As Jesus dies on the cross, one thief resists him and the other accepts him as Messiah. Jesus resists the empire but accepts his fate. We also are called to resist systems of power and oppression, and yet we ultimately have to accept that Jesus dies—and one day we will too. We have to discern what to accept as given and what to resist, what is “God’s will,” and what is the result of our own unquestioned systems.

Easter Sunday

Worship online and in the sanctuary
Sunday, April 20 at 10:00 AM

Focal scripture Luke 24:1-12
Grief is a healthy response to Jesus’ death and a valid way to enter worship on Easter morning. And
yet, the women at the empty tomb are given hope amidst their mourning. The other disciples don’t
believe the women’s message, but Peter, living in the in-between of grief and hope, runs to the tomb to see for himself. Grieving doesn’t have to make us hopeless. Hope can compel us to take action when we are deep in grief.
