Disaster Relief Team Update
From Mark Goodman - Team Chair
May 13, 2025
I am very pleased that we were able to put together a Fairview Community disaster team so quickly.
At least to begin, I will be the chair. Cindy Dixon will be our medical advisor. Jed Fredrichsen and Dale Brigham will be the tool committee. Dennis Stegall and Tresia Griffin complete the team. Anyone interested is welcome to join us.
The team will be meeting with Bambi Wheeler from the Missouri Conference of the United Methodist Church in the near future. She will help us coordinate with other Columbia United Methodist Churches and with Boone County disaster people.

To remind everyone, this is not a crew joining UMCOR teams. We will response ONLY if a disaster hits Fairview, our neighborhood, or a member of our community.
If a disaster hits, emergency professionals would come to the aid of the people quickly. However, it may take time for government responses to respond to property damage and provide for people driven from their homes. Our disaster efforts will be to respond on day 1 and as long as necessary until help arrives.
TOOLS: In case of a disaster, Dale, Jed, and I have many tools available. In addition, ten items will be provided by members of the congregation. I think we are in good shape here. If you could provide buckets or trash bags in a disaster, please let Mark Goodman know.
FOOD: Items need to be stable and not require heating or refrigeration. People have signed up for peanut butter, some dried food, and granola bars. We need people to provide nuts, more dried food, more granola bars, drinking water, and baby formula.
LIGHTING: No one offered to lend lights, either solar or battery.
PERSONAL ITEMS. We have some paper towels and toothbrush/paste offered. We could use more of those as well as towels.
HOSTING VICTIMS OR VOLUNTEERS. If a disaster hit Columbia or Boone County, UMCOR volunteers or others may want to spend the night in our multipurpose room. I will discuss with the committee whether we want to coordinate this or turn that over to the church leadership.
Anyone willing to help with any of these items may contact me at mg654460@gmail.com
Remember we do not need these things NOW. We only need them IF we are the victims of a disaster.
